Huawei Namibia Engages City of Windhoek on Proposed Smart City Framework. A delegation from Huawei Technologies Namibia has paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Windhoek, Councillor Sakarias Uunona, to discuss potential collaboration opportunities within the technology sector.
The delegation was led by Huawei Technologies’ Board Chairperson, Mr Liang Hua. During the engagement, the team presented a proposed Smart City framework aimed at supporting urban development through integrated digital solutions.
According to information shared during the visit, the proposed framework outlines technology solutions designed for key sectors including industry, agriculture, and the digital economy. The model is supported by a centralised data platform intended to bring together multiple systems under one structure, enabling improved use of data and more informed decision-making by the City.
The framework also includes a security component that features real-time monitoring capabilities. This aspect is intended to support enhanced safety and security across urban spaces by providing timely information and coordinated system responses.
Mayor Uunona welcomed the engagement and said the City of Windhoek is open to exploring technology-driven solutions that support efficient service delivery and urban management. He expressed particular interest in the security elements of the proposed framework, noting their potential relevance to the City’s needs.
The courtesy visit formed part of broader engagements between the private sector and the City of Windhoek aimed at identifying solutions that align with municipal development priorities. Discussions focused on understanding how technology platforms could support city operations and long-term planning.
Huawei Technologies Namibia said the engagement reflects its interest in working with public sector stakeholders on initiatives that leverage digital innovation. The company outlined its approach to integrated systems as a way of supporting data-driven governance.
No formal agreements were announced following the meeting. Engagements between Huawei Technologies Namibia and the City of Windhoek are expected to continue as discussions around potential collaboration progress.
