Infrastructure Works Advance to Improve Access in Havana Extensions. Construction of key road and stormwater infrastructure in Havana Extensions 8 and 11 is progressing steadily, with culverts being built across the riverbed to improve access for residents in the area.
The project is designed to ensure safe and reliable movement, particularly during the rainy season. It primarily supports residents who were relocated from the Eneas Peter Nanyemba Road reserve. Work on the project began in November 2025 and is scheduled for completion in April 2026.
City authorities confirmed that the development includes both road upgrades and stormwater management systems. The culverts form a central part of the project, addressing long standing river crossing challenges that have affected accessibility.
In a related development, a tender for the provision of service infrastructure at Havana Extension 8 was advertised and closed on 25 November 2025. The bid evaluation process is currently underway. Meanwhile, construction of electricity service infrastructure has already started. These projects, including the culvert works and land servicing, are being carried out internally by the City’s relevant departments.
Once land servicing is complete, the next phase will involve the construction of low cost housing under the Informal Settlement Upgrading Project. This is expected to further support efforts to provide improved living conditions for residents in the area.
Residents currently operating from the Community Market Area at Havana Four Ways have been encouraged to prepare for relocation. The City indicated that significant progress has been made in resolving river crossing issues and in preparing fully serviced land and housing in Havana Extensions 8 and 11.
Additional efforts are also underway to complete roadworks and the Community Market at Havana Four Ways. These improvements are aimed at easing traffic congestion while supporting a safer and more suitable environment for business activities.
