City of Windhoek Strengthens Community Ties Through Katutura East Dialogue. The City of Windhoek has reaffirmed its commitment to transparent and responsive governance through an open community engagement session held in Katutura East last weekend. Led by Her Worship, Mayor Ndeshihafela Larandja, the meeting provided residents with a platform to directly engage city officials, voice their concerns, and receive updates on ongoing initiatives.
“My door is open,” said Mayor Larandja. “We are here to listen, to act, and to serve the residents of Windhoek, the very people who have entrusted us with this responsibility.”
Residents raised several issues, including road maintenance, public safety, street lighting, and waste management. The Mayor assured the community that Katutura East will be included in the upcoming streetlight project, which covers both new installations and repairs of non-functional lights. She also encouraged pensioners to complete their debt write-off process with the Debt Management Division.
City Police Deputy Chief Adam Eiseb addressed safety concerns, announcing that police visibility will be strengthened through the City’s Smart Community Policing Strategy. The initiative aims to connect residents directly with officers on duty to improve response times and build trust between law enforcement and the community. Eiseb also urged residents to formally report crimes to support investigations and discourage the protection of offenders.
On environmental issues, Jacinta Ferreira from the Solid Waste Management Division called on residents to take ownership of their neighbourhoods by reporting illegal dumping and damaged wheelie bins. Meanwhile, Uakazuvaka Kazombiaze, Manager for Parks, assured residents that safety concerns at the Donkerhoek playground would be addressed.
