AUSC Region 5 Donates Sports and Medical Equipment to Namibia

AUSC Region 5 Donates Sports and Medical Equipment to Namibia. The African Union Sport Council (AUSC) Region 5 has donated basketball and medical equipment to Namibia, reaffirming its commitment to supporting youth development and sporting excellence in the region. The handover took place on 11 October 2025, led by Ms. Jo-Ann N. Manuel, Namibia’s Director of Sport, who presented the items on behalf of the regional body.

The donation to the Namibia Basketball Federation forms part of equipment that had originally been allocated to all ten member states during the 2024 AUSC Region 5 Youth Games. Due to logistical delays in the arrival of the equipment, the distribution process has continued this year, coordinated by the Office of the Managing Director of AUSC Region 5 and national sports authorities.

The support aims to enhance access to quality sports resources and strengthen grassroots development efforts within the member countries. Basketball, in particular, continues to grow in Southern Africa, with regional cooperation helping national federations improve facilities, training programs, and participation among young athletes.

In a separate gesture, the Local Organising Committee Medical Committee of AUSC Region 5 also donated medical equipment to the Namibia Football Team (Westphalia), which departed for Germany on Sunday. The contribution underscores the council’s ongoing focus on athlete welfare and the importance of medical readiness in competitive sports.

These initiatives highlight AUSC Region 5’s broader mission to promote regional integration through sport while ensuring that athletes and federations across Southern Africa benefit from shared resources and capacity-building efforts.
