AUSC Region 5 Advances Inclusion in Sports Through Disability and Women’s Empowerment Dialogues

AUSC Region 5 Advances Inclusion in Sports Through Disability and Women’s Empowerment Dialogues. The African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 continued its week-long series of Commission, Committee, and Advisory Board meetings in Windhoek on Day 2, with a strong focus on inclusivity in sports across Southern Africa.

The day’s sessions brought together delegates and experts from 10 African countries to engage in critical discussions on Sport for People with Disabilities (SPWD) and Women in Sports (WiS). The deliberations aimed to strengthen regional collaboration on gender equality, accessibility, and the creation of sustainable support structures for athletes from all backgrounds.

Participants reviewed progress made on previously adopted resolutions and programmes, highlighting strides taken in policy development, advocacy, and capacity building. The sessions also provided a platform to identify existing gaps and establish clear next steps to accelerate implementation across member states.

AUSC Region 5 officials underscored the importance of aligning national efforts with continental frameworks to ensure that sports become a vehicle for empowerment and social inclusion. Discussions also centred on the need to enhance resource allocation, improve facilities, and develop pathways that ensure equitable participation in competitive and community-level sports.

The meeting forms part of the broader AUSC Region 5 Commission and Committee Week, running from 8–14 November 2025, where various commissions are reviewing strategic plans, operational frameworks, and governance mechanisms aimed at strengthening the region’s sports ecosystem.

Through these engagements, AUSC Region 5 continues to champion inclusive development in sports, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that athletes—regardless of gender or disability—have equal opportunities to thrive and contribute to Africa’s sporting excellence.
