AUSC Region 5 Youth Games Close with Celebration of Culture, Unity, and Youth Excellence. The curtain has officially closed on the 2024 AUSC Region 5 Youth Games, following a vibrant and emotional ceremony held at Independence Stadium in Windhoek, Namibia. The event brought together athletes, dignitaries, and supporters from across Southern Africa in a celebration of sport, culture, and regional solidarity.

Gracing the closing ceremony was Her Excellency Lucia Witbooi, Vice President of the Republic of Namibia, who joined the crowd in applauding the achievements of young athletes and performers throughout the games. The ceremony served as a fitting finale to a week of competition and camaraderie, reinforcing the message that these Games are More Than Games.

One of the evening’s highlights was the awards segment. Santos Emmanuel Makina claimed the Best Dance Challenge title, impressing judges and fans alike and walking away with a N$10,000 prize. Zimbabwe won Best Cultural Exhibition Stand at the UN Plaza, while Angola took home Best Cultural Performance with a dynamic traditional display.

A key moment in the ceremony came as the Region 5 flag was ceremonially lowered. Hon. Sanet Steenkamp, Troika Chairperson and Namibia’s Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, officially handed the flag to AUSC Region 5 CEO, Mr. Stanley Mutoya. The flag was then passed to Mozambique, the next host of the 2026 Region 5 Youth Games.

Live performances from DJ Alba Nvilo, James Omulongo, Spuzza Slaughter House, Latoya Stella, and Mega Slaughter House capped off the night, energising the crowd and closing the Games on a high note.
