Capricorn Group Honours Namibia’s Unsung Community Heroes on Heroes Day. Heroes Day 2025 was marked with a heartfelt celebration as more than 20 Capricorn Group Changemakers joined hands to recognise the remarkable contributions of over 40 community leaders, volunteers, and caregivers from across Namibia. The event, held on Thursday, 28 August, placed the spotlight on individuals who dedicate their time and energy to uplifting society’s most vulnerable members.
The initiative paid tribute to charity leaders, project coordinators, and volunteers who work tirelessly with at-risk youth, children, the elderly, and even abandoned animals. These community heroes were celebrated for their continued efforts to bring about meaningful change, often without formal recognition or reward.
The day’s programme created an atmosphere of gratitude and camaraderie. Attendees participated in group games, enjoyed shared meals, and relaxed at pampering stations, while engaging in open conversations. A motivational address by John Kamati inspired the heroes further, underscoring the significance of grassroots action in building stronger communities.
Capricorn Group’s Group Chief Brand and Corporate Affairs Officer, Marlize Horn, highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating that recognising community heroes is essential to creating lasting progress. She noted that the unsung heroes of Namibia make it possible to reach those most in need and that Capricorn Group is committed to strengthening these community partnerships.
Community representatives also shared their gratitude. Chanè Botha of the African Child Development Trust (ACDT) praised Capricorn Group for supporting their educational mission, which has distributed more than 14 million books in 11 languages to vulnerable learners nationwide.
Adding his perspective, ChangeMaker Petrus Nujoma, a Capricorn software engineer, said contributing his skills beyond the workplace gives him a deep sense of fulfilment, reinforcing the true spirit of the initiative.
The celebration not only honoured heroes but also strengthened the bond between Capricorn Group and the communities it serves.
