EntreprenHER Training Launches in Okahandja to Empower Women Micro-Entrepreneurs. A new chapter in women’s economic empowerment began today in Okahandja as the EntreprenHER training programme officially kicked off. The five-day initiative, running from July 21 to 25, was opened by Hon. Bethuel Tjaveondja, Councillor of the Okahandja Constituency.
Designed specifically for women operating at the micro-enterprise level, the training is part of Namibia’s National Development Plan 6 (NDP6) and is implemented through a multi-stakeholder partnership involving the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, UN Women, and De Beers Group.
The programme focuses on equipping participants with practical business skills tailored to their local contexts. Training topics include financial literacy, marketing, product development, business planning, and digital tools for small business growth. Participants also receive guidance on accessing markets and formalising their operations.
Speaking at the opening, Hon. Tjaveondja emphasised the importance of inclusive economic development, noting that supporting women entrepreneurs directly contributes to community resilience and national progress.
The EntreprenHER programme also includes ongoing mentorship and access to support networks beyond the initial training phase, aiming to create sustainable pathways for growth from micro to medium enterprise level.
Organisers highlighted that the programme responds to real-world challenges faced by women entrepreneurs, particularly those in rural and peri-urban areas, by offering solutions that are both practical and scalable.
With over 50 women participating in the Okahandja cohort, the programme is expected to expand to other regions later in the year, building momentum toward a more inclusive and gender-responsive entrepreneurial ecosystem in Namibia.
