Government to Host AfCFTA Business Engagement in Otjiwarongo to Boost Regional Trade Readiness

Government to Host AfCFTA Business Engagement in Otjiwarongo to Boost Regional Trade Readiness. The Ministry of International Relations and Trade (MIRT), in partnership with the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy (MIME), will host the 2nd Ministerial Regional Business Engagement on Friday, 18 July 2025, in Otjiwarongo, as part of a nationwide initiative to support the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

This regional consultation, set to take place at 14h30 at the Otjiwarongo Regional Council Hall, follows the official launch of trade under the AfCFTA. The initiative is designed to raise awareness, facilitate dialogue, and prepare Namibian businesses to effectively compete and collaborate in the newly formed continental market.

The Honourable Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, Minister of International Relations and Trade, will deliver a keynote address, highlighting the government’s commitment to strengthening public-private sector cooperation. Her remarks will also underline the strategic importance of regional readiness in positioning Namibia to benefit from expanded trade opportunities across Africa.

The engagement forms part of a broader campaign that will span all 14 political regions of Namibia. These consultations are aimed at informing and equipping local entrepreneurs, manufacturers, and traders with insights on the AfCFTA framework, including trade procedures, regulatory alignment, and cross-border opportunities.

By bringing these discussions directly to regional business communities, the government seeks to ensure that enterprises outside of Windhoek are equally positioned to leverage the continental market. The sessions will also serve as a platform for local stakeholders to raise practical concerns, share feedback, and explore partnerships in the context of intra-African trade.

The Otjiwarongo engagement is expected to draw participants from across the Otjozondjupa Region, continuing the momentum toward inclusive and practical implementation of Namibia’s trade ambitions under AfCFTA.
