Ministries and Partners Deliver 2,500 Bags of Porridge to Boost Early Childhood Nutrition in Erongo. The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, has received 2,500 bags of instant porridge to support early childhood feeding programmes in the Erongo Region.

This donation forms part of a broader effort to strengthen Early Childhood Development (ECD) initiatives across Namibia. The consignment was made possible through a N$29 million financial contribution from the European Union, with technical assistance provided by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Namibia and on-the-ground implementation by WECCA Investments CC.

During the official handover ceremony held in Swakopmund, Executive Director of Education, Honourable Sanet L. Steenkamp, emphasized the government’s unwavering dedication to multisectoral partnerships that ensure children are well-nourished and prepared for lifelong learning.

The porridge donation is expected to improve classroom attendance, focus, and overall development among young learners enrolled in ECD centres throughout Erongo. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring transparency, timely delivery, and accountability in distributing the food supplies to intended beneficiaries.

This initiative aligns with the national agenda to strengthen early learning foundations and reduce barriers to education caused by food insecurity. The Ministry also noted that this programme would be scaled up in future phases in collaboration with partners.

The ECD Feeding Programme continues to be a vital tool in tackling malnutrition and promoting cognitive development among Namibia’s youngest citizens, ensuring every child has a fair start in life.
