Ministry of International Relations Welcomes New Intern Cohort for Work-Integrated Learning

Ministry of International Relations Welcomes New Intern Cohort for Work-Integrated Learning. The Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation (MIRCO) officially welcomed 25 interns for a three-month work-integrated learning programme, marking the start of a practical and professional development journey for the young participants.

At a welcoming ceremony held on 2 May 2025, Ambassador Penda Naanda, Executive Director at MIRCO, addressed the interns, offering insight into the Ministry’s mandate, vision, and mission. He provided a detailed overview of the Ministry’s core responsibilities in both domestic and international affairs, reinforcing the importance of diplomacy, global cooperation, and administrative precision.

Ambassador Naanda emphasized the seriousness of the work the interns would be engaging in, encouraging them to embrace the experience with professionalism and dedication. At the same time, he created an encouraging environment to ease the interns into their new roles, helping them feel valued and supported as they take their first steps into government service.

The internship programme will see interns deployed across MIRCO’s key Departments and Directorates, including Multilateral Relations, Bilateral Affairs, Protocol, Legal Affairs, Administration, Information, and Policy Planning. This placement model is designed to provide a broad and practical understanding of Namibia’s foreign policy implementation and the inner workings of the Ministry.

This initiative forms part of MIRCO’s broader commitment to youth development and skills transfer in the public service, giving young graduates the opportunity to gain real-world experience in international relations and governance.

As the interns settle into their placements, the Ministry anticipates their contributions will add value while equipping them with essential skills for future roles in public or international service.
