Windhoek Welcomes Mayor Sakarias Uunona and Deputy Mayor Albertina Amutenya. Windhoek’s new leadership team has officially assumed office, with Mayor Cllr. Sakarias Uunona and Deputy Mayor Cllr. Albertina Amutenya introduced to their roles and staff members this morning by the City’s Chief Executive Officer, Moses Matyayi.
During the introduction, Mayor Uunona underscored that serving the residents of Windhoek is his top priority. He emphasised the importance of respect and dignity in all interactions, stressing that public service must reflect the values the community expects from its leaders.
The induction forms part of the City’s 2025/2026 programme, which will continue until January 2026. It is designed to familiarise the newly elected Council with Windhoek’s administrative systems, operational procedures, and ongoing projects. CEO Matyayi confirmed that he will also meet with all Councillors today as part of their formal orientation.
The induction programme aims to equip the Council with the knowledge and tools necessary to perform their governance duties effectively. It provides insight into municipal operations, budgeting processes, and strategic initiatives that affect the day-to-day lives of Windhoek residents.
Mayor Uunona’s appointment comes at a time when the City seeks to strengthen service delivery and improve engagement with communities across Windhoek. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are expected to work closely with the Council and administrative teams to ensure local governance is transparent, accountable, and responsive to citizen needs.
The City encourages residents to engage with their local leaders and participate in ongoing initiatives that support sustainable urban development. The induction programme reflects Windhoek’s commitment to preparing its elected officials for effective leadership and service excellence.
This transition marks a new chapter in Windhoek’s municipal leadership, with a focus on collaboration, civic responsibility, and delivering results for the city’s residents.
