Water Supply Gradually Restored After Major Pipeline Repair in Windhoek

Water Supply Gradually Restored After Major Pipeline Repair in Windhoek. Water supply to parts of the Northern Industrial Area and Katutura is in the process of being restored following the successful repair of a major bulk water pipeline. According to an official update issued to residents, the 600 millimetre pipeline was fully repaired at midnight on 21 January 2026.

Rhe repair work addressed a significant fault on the bulk supply line, which plays a critical role in distributing water to the affected areas. Authorities indicated that while the repair itself was completed on schedule, reservoir levels were substantially depleted at the time the work concluded.

Since the completion of the repairs, efforts have been focused on refilling the pipeline system and replenishing reservoir storage. Due to the size and capacity of the pipeline, the restoration of water supply has been described as a gradual process rather than an immediate return to full service.

Officials confirmed that some sections within the Northern Industrial Area and Katutura have already begun receiving water. However, supply has not yet been fully restored across all affected areas. The phased return is linked to the time required for reservoir levels to stabilise and for pressure to normalise throughout the distribution network.

Full water supply to all affected areas is expected to be restored later in the morning as refilling continues and system levels improve. Residents have been advised that temporary variations in pressure may occur during this period as the network stabilises.

In the update, authorities expressed appreciation to residents and businesses for their patience and cooperation during the interruption. The message acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the disruption and thanked communities for their understanding while the essential repair work and restoration process were carried out.

The Northern Industrial Area and Katutura are among the key zones served by the bulk pipeline, making the successful repair a critical step in restoring normal water supply operations.
