Santam Namibia Donates Flood and Fire Awareness Materials to Strengthen Windhoek’s Disaster Preparedness. The City of Windhoek has received flood warning signs and disaster risk awareness billboards valued at N$174,674.69 from Santam Namibia, marking another milestone in strengthening the city’s disaster preparedness and community safety efforts.

The official handover ceremony took place in Hochland Park at Pelican Street and was officiated by Her Worship, Ndeshihafela Larandja, Mayor of the City of Windhoek. The event was attended by Franco Feris, CEO of Santam Namibia, Chief Raymond Kapia, Divisional Head for Emergency and Disaster Risk Management, and residents of the Windhoek West Constituency.

The newly donated flood warning signs will be installed in low-lying and flood-prone areas across the city to alert residents during heavy rainfall and potential flooding. Meanwhile, the awareness billboards will serve as educational tools, reminding communities of critical fire and flood prevention measures to enhance safety and reduce risks.

Mayor Larandja expressed appreciation for Santam Namibia’s ongoing collaboration, describing the initiative as an example of effective public-private partnership. “Today’s occasion symbolizes not only a partnership between institutions but also a shared commitment to protecting lives, property, and livelihoods,” she said.

She further urged residents to safeguard the new infrastructure and take responsibility for community safety. “Disaster risk reduction is not only a City of Windhoek or government responsibility, but a shared duty for all of us,” the Mayor emphasized.

The initiative underscores the growing importance of community awareness, preparedness, and collaboration in managing climate-related and urban risks. By integrating private sector support into public safety initiatives, Windhoek aims to build a safer, more resilient city for all its residents.
