Rent-A-Drum Strengthens Ties with City of Windhoek on Waste Management. Executives from Rent-A-Drum, Namibia’s leading private waste management enterprise established in 1989, paid a courtesy visit to His Worship, Mayor Sakarias Uunona, at the City of Windhoek today. The engagement served to formally introduce the company’s leadership and provide a strategic update on the operations and future expansion of the Namwaste Management Facility.
The delegation was led by Managing Director Riaan Vermeulen and Founder/Chairman Gys Louw, accompanied by members of the executive team. During discussions, Rent-A-Drum highlighted ongoing land acquisition efforts aimed at designing specialized landfills. These facilities are intended to process non-organic waste for use in energy-to-waste systems, positioning the company as a proactive partner in addressing long-term waste management challenges.
As a primary waste handling organization, Rent-A-Drum emphasized the importance of collaboration with the City, particularly in preparing contingencies for when the Kupferberg Landfill reaches capacity. The company also expressed readiness to assist in managing hazardous waste originating outside municipal boundaries, reinforcing its role as a comprehensive waste management partner.
Vermeulen reaffirmed Rent-A-Drum’s commitment to supporting the City: “We remain ready to provide full support in waste management whenever necessary, ensuring sustainability and innovation remain at the forefront.”
Mayor Uunona welcomed the delegation, noting that partnerships of this nature are vital to the City’s success. He emphasized that the Council cannot maintain the city alone and encouraged greater collaboration with the business community. The Mayor further highlighted the value of tapping into Rent-A-Drum’s technical expertise and innovation, which can strengthen Windhoek’s waste management systems and sustainability agenda.
The courtesy call underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in building a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Windhoek.
