NFA Appoints Marcos Antunes as Brave 5 Futsal Head Coach Ahead of AFCON QQualifiers. The Namibia Football Association (NFA) has announced the appointment of Portuguese national Marcos Antunes as the new Head Coach of the Namibia Futsal Men’s National Team, known as the Brave 5. The appointment comes as the team prepares for the CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2026 qualifiers.
In a statement confirming the development, the NFA said Antunes brings extensive international futsal experience to the national setup. His coaching background includes involvement at the highest level of the sport, having featured at two FIFA Futsal World Cups. These tournaments were hosted in Lithuania in 2021 and Uzbekistan in 2024.
The association indicated that Antunes’ international exposure is expected to strengthen the technical direction of the men’s futsal team as Namibia looks ahead to continental qualification fixtures. His appointment forms part of preparations for the upcoming AFCON qualifying campaign, which will determine teams advancing to the 2026 finals.
Futsal continues to grow in prominence across Africa, with national associations investing in technical expertise to improve competitiveness at continental level. The NFA’s decision to appoint an experienced international coach reflects the importance placed on the upcoming qualifiers and the development of the men’s futsal programme.
Antunes will take charge of the Brave 5 with immediate effect, focusing on team preparation, tactical organisation and match readiness ahead of qualification matches. The NFA has not provided further details regarding the length of his contract or the composition of his technical team.
The appointment marks a new chapter for Namibia’s men’s futsal side as it prepares to compete against regional opponents for a place at the CAF Futsal AFCON 2026. The NFA said it remains committed to strengthening futsal structures and supporting national teams across all levels of the game.
Further updates on the team’s preparations and fixtures are expected to be communicated by the association in due course.
