National Youth Training Programme Strengthens Entrepreneurship Skills Across All Regions. The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture is advancing youth empowerment through nationwide entrepreneurship training under the Namibia Youth Credit Scheme (NYCS). The initiative, facilitated by the Directorate of Youth Development, is currently underway in all 14 regions, equipping young people with practical business skills to support income generation and local economic growth.
During the opening session at the Kai //Ganaxab Youth Skills Training Centre in Mariental, Youth Officer and NYCS Secretariat representative Ms Maria Ekongo acknowledged the importance of the programme. She noted that the Scheme provides young unemployed Namibians with access to financial resources and opportunities that support their participation in economic activity.
In the Hardap Region, 75 unemployed youth aged 18 to 35 from eight constituencies are participating in the week-long workshop. The training focuses on essential principles of basic business management, preparing participants to establish and run small and medium enterprises capable of producing revenue, creating jobs and contributing to improved living standards.
The workshops are structured to ensure that each participant gains hands-on experience in business planning and management. By the end of each regional training programme, attendees are expected to demonstrate how they will apply core business principles, develop and submit a basic business plan for potential funding and outline how they intend to monitor and manage the progress of their enterprises.
The nationwide rollout of the NYCS training reflects a commitment to supporting youth-led economic activity and promoting sustainable livelihoods. By equipping the next generation of entrepreneurs with foundational business skills, the programme aims to strengthen regional development and broaden participation in the country’s economic landscape.
The Ministry has expressed appreciation to the youth who have shown dedication to the programme, as well as to all stakeholders contributing to the success of the training sessions across Namibia.
