New MIME Minister Modestus Amutse Takes Office as Namibia Pushes Industrial and Energy Growth. The Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy (MIME) has officially welcomed the appointment of Modestus Amutse as its new minister, following his selection by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. His appointment took effect on 2 December 2025.
Hon. Amutse enters the role with extensive experience in public administration, having previously served as Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology, as well as holding leadership positions at both regional and parliamentary levels. His background positions him to guide MIME through a period marked by significant national priorities and fast-moving sectoral demands.
The Ministry highlighted that his arrival comes at a pivotal time as Namibia continues to drive key national development objectives. These include advancing industrialisation efforts, strengthening the mining sector, and accelerating progress in the energy landscape to align with sustainable development goals under NDP6.
MIME noted that each of these areas is essential to supporting economic growth, attracting investment and enhancing Namibia’s long-term competitiveness. The Ministry expressed confidence that Minister Amutse’s leadership will help sustain momentum across ongoing programmes and policy initiatives.
In addition to welcoming the new minister, MIME extended its appreciation to Honourable Frans Kapofi, Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, who served as Interim Minister prior to the appointment. His contribution ensured continuity during the transition period and supported the Ministry’s mandate.
The appointment signals continued commitment from the Presidency to reinforce leadership capacity across strategic portfolios, particularly those with direct impact on industrial development, mineral resource management and national energy progress.
Minister Amutse now steps into a critical role as Namibia works to shape a more resilient and future-ready economic environment through innovation, resource development and sustainable energy expansion.
