Modestus Amutse Appointed Namibia’s Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy

Modestus Amutse Appointed Namibia’s Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy. President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has officially appointed Modestus Amutse as Namibia’s new Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, with the appointment taking effect on 2 December 2025. Amutse, who previously served as Deputy Minister of ICT, assumes the position at a critical moment as the country pursues industrialisation, strengthens mining governance, and expands its energy sector under the framework of NDP6.

In announcing the appointment, the President expressed appreciation to Defence Minister Frans Kapofi, who acted in the role over recent months. She commended Kapofi for his steady leadership during this transitional period, highlighting his contribution to maintaining continuity in overseeing Namibia’s industrial, mining, and energy initiatives.

Amutse brings experience from his tenure in ICT, where he was involved in advancing digital infrastructure and policy development. His appointment is expected to coincide with Namibia’s broader economic ambitions, including enhancing the regulatory environment for mining operations, supporting sustainable energy projects, and promoting industrial growth to increase employment and economic diversification.

The Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy plays a pivotal role in Namibia’s economic strategy, overseeing critical sectors that contribute significantly to national GDP and foreign investment. The new minister will be tasked with aligning industrial and mining policies with the government’s long-term development priorities while facilitating growth in the renewable and traditional energy sectors.

Amutse’s appointment has been welcomed by stakeholders who see his experience in government and policy implementation as an asset for navigating the complex and evolving industrial and energy landscape. His leadership will be closely watched as Namibia continues to implement initiatives aimed at increasing domestic production, optimising mining revenues, and expanding access to reliable energy sources.

The transition marks a new chapter for the ministry, with expectations that Amutse will advance strategic initiatives, strengthen governance frameworks, and contribute to Namibia’s sustainable economic growth.
