The squad announcement was accompanied by the unveiling of a ten-member technical and support team, as the national side prepares to take on the continent’s best with the goal of securing a place on the global stage.
The forwards selected include seasoned names such as Aranos Coetzee, Torsten van Jaarsveld, and Max Katjijeko, while the backs feature Cliven Loubser, Danco Burger, and Jacques Theron. The squad reflects a blend of experience and emerging talent, with players drawn from both domestic and international rugby platforms.
Leading the team’s preparations is Director of Rugby Jacques Burger, supported by a technical team that includes head coach David Philander, strength and conditioning coach Sergio de la Harpe, and physiotherapist Tanya Green. The medical team is headed by Dr. Wilfred Bezuidenhout.
Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service welcomed the announcement as the team prepares to represent Namibia on one of Africa’s biggest rugby stages.
The Namibia Rugby Union emphasized the importance of the Rugby Africa Cup not just as a competition, but as a critical stepping stone toward qualification for the 2027 Rugby World Cup. The upcoming tournament in Kampala presents an opportunity for Namibia to build on its rugby legacy and pursue continued excellence on the international front.
The squad is expected to depart for Uganda in early July as preparations enter their final phase.
