Ministry Leaders Complete Migration to MTC’s New eSIM Technology. The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has officially completed its migration from physical SIM cards to MTC’s newly launched electronic SIMs, marking another milestone in Namibia’s shift toward modern digital communication systems. This follows the formal introduction of the eSIM technology by Minister Emma Theophelus two months ago.

The digital SIM, which is embedded directly into a device, allows users to activate a mobile plan without inserting a physical card. The technology also enables the use of multiple mobile profiles on a single device, offering improved convenience and flexibility for users who manage several numbers. In addition to ease of use, the eSIM enhances security by reducing risks associated with SIM card loss, duplication, or theft.

Senior officials from the ministry were among the latest to transition to the platform. Interim Executive Director Linda Aipinge and Director of Audio Visual Media Roselia Penda completed their registrations, demonstrating the ministry’s commitment to embracing digital innovation and supporting the evolution of mobile communication services.

The adoption of eSIM technology represents a significant step toward modernising administrative operations and promoting digital readiness across public institutions. With the ability to streamline connectivity, improve user experience, and support advanced mobile capabilities, the shift aligns with national efforts to strengthen Namibia’s digital transformation agenda.

As more users adopt the technology, MTC’s eSIM rollout is expected to contribute to a more efficient and secure telecommunications environment. The ministry’s migration underscores the growing acceptance of digital solutions that enhance both convenience and security.
