New Props and Costume Warehouse Sets Stage for Namibia’s Growing Film Sector. Namibia’s creative industry marked an important milestone this week with the official launch of the Props and Costume warehouse at the Creators Industry Institute of Africa in Windhoek. The facility was inaugurated by the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, during a ceremony held on Tuesday.
The launch represents a meaningful step forward for the country’s film and production sector, offering filmmakers, content creators, and creative professionals access to essential resources previously difficult to obtain locally. The warehouse is expected to support a wide range of productions by providing props, costumes, and related materials under one central, accessible platform.
Minister Theofelus described the development as a timely intervention for a growing industry dominated by young, ambitious creatives. She noted that while Namibia’s talent pool continues to expand, creators often face barriers linked to limited infrastructure, high production costs, and insufficient platforms that allow them to scale their work.
She emphasized that the new warehouse is a practical response to these challenges and aligns with broader national efforts to strengthen the creative economy.
Theofelus also reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the sector, highlighting the role of the Namibian Film Commission, which falls under her Ministry. She stated that government efforts remain focused on enabling progressive policies, enhancing digital and production infrastructure, and building partnerships that stimulate innovation and attract investment.
According to the Ministry, such initiatives are essential to positioning Namibia as a competitive filming destination and empowering local creatives to produce high-quality content aligned with international standards.
The launch of the Props and Costume warehouse is expected to boost production efficiency, lower costs for filmmakers, and contribute to the overall professionalization of the audio-visual sector. It forms part of a broader national vision to grow the creative industry into a sustainable economic driver capable of generating jobs, exportable content, and new business opportunities.
Industry stakeholders in attendance welcomed the development, describing it as a crucial resource that will help unlock the potential of Namibia’s film and entertainment landscape.
