MEIYSAC Committee Undergoes Training to Strengthen Affirmative Action Compliance

MEIYSAC Committee Undergoes Training to Strengthen Affirmative Action Compliance. The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC) Affirmative Action Committee members are participating in a two-day training workshop in Otjiwarongo from 18–19 September 2025. The session forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with the Affirmative Action (Employment) Act, 1998 (Act No. 29 of 1998).

Facilitated under the mandate of the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), the training is designed to equip committee members with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively develop, implement, and report on Affirmative Action Plans. These plans are a legislative requirement for all Offices, Ministries, Agencies (OMAs) and Regional Councils (RCs).

The workshop places strong emphasis on inclusivity, fairness, and equitable representation across all designated groups in the workplace. By strengthening the capacity of its Affirmative Action Committee, MEIYSAC aims to not only meet compliance obligations but also embed diversity and fairness as core values in its institutional culture.

The training further underscores government’s commitment to transforming workplaces into environments where all Namibians have equal access to opportunities. It highlights the importance of accountability and structured reporting in monitoring progress towards equity targets.

For MEIYSAC, this initiative reaffirms its role in promoting practices that advance equal participation across gender, disability, and other designated categories as outlined in the Act. The ministry views this step as part of its broader responsibility to model inclusivity for both the public service and the education sector.

As participants complete the two-day programme, the expectation is that strengthened internal structures will help the ministry deliver on its obligations while contributing to Namibia’s overall transformation agenda.
