Massive Transformer Convoy Reaches Charleshill En Route to Namibia. A massive 100-meter abnormal load truck carrying a refurbished high-voltage power transformer has successfully reached Charleshill on its way to Namibia’s Gerus Substation. The cargo, originating from Eskom Rotek Industries in South Africa, is expected to cross into Namibia today.
The convoy, made up of multiple trucks, is traveling at an average speed of 25 km/h and covering approximately 80 kilometers per day. Botswana Traffic Police officers are assisting in ensuring smooth movement and compliance with safety regulations along the route.
Hon. Patrick Gaebuse of the Charleshill District Council expressed appreciation for the Trans-Kgalagadi Corridor, noting the opportunities it presents for the district. “The scale and nature of cargo that passes through this area of Ghanzi is impressive,” he remarked, urging continued support for the corridor’s role in regional trade.
The successful movement of this abnormal load demonstrates the strength of regional transport cooperation and highlights the reliability of the Trans-Kgalagadi Corridor as a strategic trade route for Botswana.
Motorists have been urged to exercise caution, patience, and cooperation when encountering the convoy, given its size and slow pace.
The convoy is expected to reach the Mamuno One Stop Border Post into Namibia’s Omaheke Region before proceeding directly to Gerus Substation, located approximately 33 kilometers outside Otjiwarongo on the C338 road to Outjo.
This milestone underscores the importance of regional collaboration in infrastructure logistics and the role of strategic corridors in facilitating large-scale industrial transport across Southern Africa.
