Hope Farm Project Launched in Usakos to Empower Erongo Farmers and Build Sustainable Livelihoods. A bold new agricultural initiative has been launched in Namibia’s Erongo Region, bringing renewed hope and opportunity to rural communities. On 26 July 2025, the Hope Farm Project was officially launched at Farm Daweb in Usakos, marking a significant milestone in public-private collaboration for sustainable development.
Spearheaded by the Swakop Uranium Foundation, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Office of the Governor of Erongo Region, and the Erongo Regional Council, the project begins with an initial investment of N$3 million. At the heart of the initiative is the symbolic and practical handover of 630 goats and sheep to 30 local farmers, forming the foundation of a unique revolving livestock model.
Under the model, each participating farmer will return 10 young animals after 15 months, which will then be distributed to the next group of beneficiaries—ensuring that the benefits of the project are passed on to future farmers in the region.
Speaking at the launch, representatives from all partner organisations emphasised the project’s focus on sustainability, community empowerment, and economic inclusion. More than just livestock distribution, the Hope Farm Project aims to build resilient livelihoods, support generational farming knowledge, and reduce dependency through practical support.
The programme is expected to boost food security, stimulate rural enterprise, and strengthen local economies across Erongo. For many of the beneficiaries, it marks the beginning of a journey toward financial independence and long-term agricultural productivity.
As the project grows, it is poised to serve as a model for grassroots economic transformation, rooted in collaboration and shared responsibility.
