Education and Agriculture Leaders Visit Zambezi Governor to Discuss Regional Development

Education and Agriculture Leaders Visit Zambezi Governor to Discuss Regional Development. A high-level delegation comprising the Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Hon. Sanet Steenkamp, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Land Reform, Hon. Ruth Masake, and Prof. Kenneth Matengu representing the University of Namibia (UNAM), paid a courtesy visit to the Zambezi Regional Governor, Hon. Dorothy Kabula, today.

Governor Kabula welcomed the delegation and underlined the central role of agriculture in regional development, noting its potential to create local industries and businesses that can contribute to both economic growth and community empowerment.

The visit forms part of an ongoing regional engagement, which included an assessment tour of the Kalimbeza Rice Project, a key agricultural initiative in the Zambezi Region. The project is considered an important driver for food production and sustainability efforts, with the potential to strengthen local livelihoods and support broader economic activity.

During the meeting, discussions highlighted the need for collaboration across education, agriculture, and research institutions. The involvement of UNAM signals the importance of linking academic expertise with regional initiatives to enhance skills development, innovation, and practical solutions tailored to the agricultural sector.

The presence of both education and agriculture leadership reflects a commitment to multi-sectoral cooperation aimed at unlocking opportunities in the Zambezi Region. By focusing on agriculture and related industries, stakeholders see a path toward building stronger local economies while empowering communities through education, youth engagement, and business participation.

The delegation’s visit underscores ongoing efforts to integrate policy, research, and community action, with the goal of ensuring that agriculture remains a cornerstone of regional progress in Namibia.
