Development Bank of Namibia Inducts Record Number of Young Professionals in Leadership Programme

Development Bank of Namibia Inducts Record Number of Young Professionals in Leadership Programme. The Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) has welcomed eight aspiring financial professionals into its Young Professional Programme, marking the largest intake since the initiative’s inception. The two-year programme is designed to prepare graduates for leadership in development finance and public sector economic transformation.

This year’s inductees—Nadia Engelbrecht, Zacarias Fernandes, Abraham Mabuta, Fortune Lizazi, Matilde Johannes, Esther Samundu, Agnes Mushe, and Merry Nghihepavali—were officially introduced to stakeholders during a special ceremony held at DBN’s headquarters in Windhoek.

Speaking at the event, Acting CEO John Mbango highlighted the programme’s role in shaping a future-ready financial leadership pipeline. “Today’s launch is more than just welcoming eight young professionals,” he said. “It is a reaffirmation of our commitment to excellence, continuity, and long-term impact.”

The Young Professional Programme is structured to provide graduates with comprehensive exposure to DBN’s policy, strategy, and operations through rotational departmental placements. Participants will benefit from mentoring, hands-on experience, and progress benchmarking, all within a framework aligned with Namibia’s national development goals.

Beyond professional growth, the programme addresses a broader economic need: building local capacity in development finance. By cultivating young talent, DBN aims to close critical skills gaps while fostering innovation in areas that drive inclusive growth.

This cohort’s selection followed a rigorous recruitment process, with a focus on candidates who demonstrate both technical competence and a commitment to national development. Their integration into the bank represents a strategic investment in the country’s future, where strong, homegrown leadership is essential to navigating complex economic challenges.

As Namibia seeks to diversify its economy and deepen its development impact, initiatives like DBN’s Young Professional Programme play a vital role in building a resilient, skilled workforce.
