City of Windhoek Lights Up Informal Settlements with New High Mast LEDs. The City of Windhoek has completed the installation of five new High Mast LED lights in key informal settlement areas, significantly improving nighttime visibility and safety for residents.
Led by Alderwoman Fransina Kahungu, Chairperson of the City Council’s Basic Service Committee, officials recently conducted on-site inspections to assess the lighting infrastructure, which was supplied and installed by Faraday’s Electrical.
The newly operational lights are located at the following sites:
- Goreangab Soccer Field (towards Ongos)
- Eehambo daNehale Interlocks and Deeper
- Havana Dumping Site
- Behind Frans Indongo Primary School
- Sonderwater, Katutura
According to the City, all lights are now fully functional and delivering excellent illumination, creating safer environments for evening activities and reducing the risk of crime in these underserved areas.
The lighting project is one of several aimed at improving basic infrastructure and quality of life in areas that have historically lacked essential services. City officials have confirmed that more installations are being considered as part of a broader public safety and urban development strategy.
Residents and local leaders have welcomed the move, noting improved visibility for children returning from evening classes and safer communal spaces at night.
