Emma Naris, captain of Namibia’s Brave Gladiators, has announced her retirement from the senior women’s national football team at the age of 29. Her decision comes shortly after leading the team to victory at the 2025 COSAFA Women’s Championship, where Namibia claimed the silverware in a historic campaign.
Naris explained that her retirement was motivated by the desire to give the next generation of players the opportunity to rise and shine. She made her debut for the senior women’s national team in April 2018 during the Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifiers, marking the beginning of a distinguished career.
Over the years, she represented Namibia at multiple levels, including the under-13, under-15, under-17, under-20, and senior women’s teams. Her journey reflects a long-standing commitment to the sport and to the development of women’s football in the country.
During her 15-year tenure, Naris helped secure the 2025 COSAFA Women’s Championship title and contributed to a fourth-place finish at the 2022 COSAFA Women’s Championship. Her leadership on and off the field has been widely recognized, with teammates and supporters praising her discipline, resilience, and dedication.
In her farewell message, Naris extended heartfelt gratitude to fans, the Namibia Football Association (NFA), her family, friends, and everyone who supported her throughout her career.
