The Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare’s After School Centre Boxing Club proudly represented Namibia in an international boxing friendly tournament held on 30 May 2026 in Johannesburg, Gauteng Province, South Africa. The event was organized by Coach Fadill HBA and brought together young athletes eager to showcase their skills on a competitive stage.
Namibia fielded a team of ten boxers, who delivered an outstanding performance against their South African counterparts. The team secured a total of six gold medals and four silver medals, a result that highlighted both their talent and determination.
The tournament provided invaluable exposure for the young athletes, offering them the chance to test their abilities in an international environment while gaining confidence and experience. Their participation reflects the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the holistic development and well-being of children through structured activities that go beyond sport.
By engaging in boxing, the athletes benefit from opportunities that promote discipline, resilience, teamwork, self-confidence, and positive social behaviour. These values are central to the Ministry’s vision of empowering children and nurturing their potential.
Coach Lunga expressed pride in the team’s achievement, noting that the competition not only demonstrated the athletes’ skill but also underscored the positive impact of sport in shaping young lives. He emphasized that international exposure is crucial for building confidence and preparing athletes for future challenges.
The success of Namibia’s young boxers in Johannesburg stands as a testament to their hard work and the support of their coaches and mentors. It also highlights the role of sport as a powerful tool for empowerment, unity, and personal growth.
