Austria Delegation Strengthens Ties with Namibia’s Education Ministry. On 7 May 2026, the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC) welcomed a high-level delegation from the Republic of Austria, led by Ambassador Nikolaus Marschik, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs. The courtesy visit opened a dialogue on areas of mutual interest, reinforcing cooperation between the two nations.
Discussions centered on the ministry’s key pillars, including quality education, youth development, sports, arts, and culture. Specific deliberations focused on strengthening collaboration in the vocational and technical education sector, expanding research and cultural exchange at higher learning institutions, scholarship opportunities, and possible partnerships in sports activities. The talks also addressed critical diplomatic engagements to facilitate the repatriation of ancestral remains from cultural institutions in Vienna.
Hon. Minister Dr. Sanet L. Steenkamp highlighted Namibia’s progress in transforming state-owned Vocational Training Centres into fully-fledged TVET colleges to bridge national skills gaps. She reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to fostering international partnerships that support innovation, educational excellence, and cultural exchange for sustainable development and youth empowerment.
Ambassador Marschik expressed appreciation for the engagement and underscored Austria’s interest in deepening cooperation with Namibia in areas that promote human capital development and cultural understanding. He noted that such partnerships are vital in building stronger ties and creating opportunities that benefit both nations.
The ministry emphasized that the visit marks an important step in advancing Namibia’s international collaboration agenda. By engaging Austria, Namibia aims to strengthen its education and cultural sectors while promoting shared values of innovation and inclusivity.
Looking ahead, MEIYSAC expressed optimism about continued engagement with Austria, with the goal of creating meaningful opportunities that contribute to the long-term development of both countries.
