NDGA Expands Depositor Protection in 2025 Annual Report

NDGA Expands Depositor Protection in 2025 Annual Report. The Namibia Deposit Guarantee Authority (NDGA) has released its 2025 Annual Report, outlining key achievements in strengthening depositor protection and reinforcing confidence in the country’s financial system.

A major highlight of the year under review was the increase in the maximum deposit guarantee coverage limit from N$25,000 to N$50,000 per depositor. This adjustment broadens Namibia’s financial safety net, offering depositors more substantial protection in the unlikely event of a commercial bank failure. The move reflects the Authority’s commitment to safeguarding public trust in the banking sector.

The report also details NDGA’s efforts to build a more responsive and resilient deposit insurance system. In 2025, the Authority participated in a national crisis simulation exercise, continued regional stakeholder engagements, and advanced strategic partnerships through cooperation with peer institutions. These initiatives were aimed at strengthening Namibia’s preparedness for potential financial shocks and ensuring depositor confidence remains intact.

The year further marked the conclusion of NDGA’s inaugural 2023–2025 Strategic Plan, which laid the groundwork for institutional development and system enhancements. Looking ahead, the Authority will implement its new 2026–2028 Strategic Plan, with a continued focus on protecting depositors, promoting trust in the banking sector, and contributing to overall financial stability.

By expanding coverage limits and reinforcing its operational framework, NDGA has taken significant steps toward ensuring that Namibia’s deposit insurance system remains robust, credible, and aligned with international best practices. The report underscores the Authority’s role as a cornerstone of financial stability, providing assurance to depositors and strengthening confidence in the country’s banking environment.
