Minister Zaamwani Explores Agricultural Opportunities in Oranjemund

Minister Zaamwani Explores Agricultural Opportunities in Oranjemund. Hon. Inge Zaamwani, Minister of Agriculture, led a delegation on a familiarisation visit to Oranjemund from 26–27 March 2026, focusing on the region’s agricultural development potential.

The visit began with engagements at the Zambezi Regional Council offices, where the Minister met with NAMDEB management, led by Chief Executive Officer Mr. Riaan Burger. Discussions centered on exploring opportunities to unlock land for agriculture and strengthen collaboration between NAMDEB and the Ministry.

During the two-day programme, the delegation toured key agriculture and tourism sites, including a local nursery, gaining first-hand insight into NAMDEB’s agricultural initiatives. These initiatives are designed to support local livelihoods and contribute to broader economic growth in the region.

The visit highlighted the potential for agriculture to play a transformative role in Oranjemund’s development, particularly in diversifying the local economy and creating sustainable employment opportunities. By leveraging partnerships between government and private sector stakeholders, the Ministry aims to foster inclusive growth while ensuring that communities benefit directly from agricultural expansion.

Government reaffirmed its commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture, strengthening food security, and driving economic resilience. The Minister emphasized that agricultural development is central to Namibia’s long-term strategy of reducing dependency on imports and building self-sufficiency in food production.

The familiarisation visit underscored the importance of collaboration in unlocking Oranjemund’s agricultural potential. By aligning efforts between NAMDEB, local communities, and government, the initiative seeks to create a balanced approach that supports both economic development and environmental sustainability.

The engagements concluded with a call to action for stakeholders to continue working together to transform Oranjemund into a hub of agricultural innovation and resilience.
