Electrification Projects Advance as Ministry and SORED Implement Service Agreement

Electrification Projects Advance as Ministry and SORED Implement Service Agreement. A new phase in regional electrification efforts was marked in Mariental on Friday with the implementation of a Service Level Agreement between the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy and the Southern Regional Electricity Distributor, SORED.

The occasion was observed during a groundbreaking ceremony attended by Minister Modestus Amutse, where the agreement was formally put into effect. The event signaled the start of projects aimed at expanding electricity infrastructure and strengthening service delivery in the Hardap and ǁKharas regions.

According to information shared at the ceremony, the electrification initiative is expected to benefit several communities. In the Hardap Region, areas named include Rehoboth, Mariental, Aranos, Hoachanas, and Gibeon. In the ǁKharas Region, the projects are set to reach Aroab, Bethanie, Berseba, Aus, Grünau, and Warmbad.

The Service Level Agreement outlines the working relationship between the ministry and SORED in carrying out the electrification programme. While specific technical details and timelines were not disclosed, the agreement marks a formal step toward improving access to electricity in the identified areas.

Officials described the milestone as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure and enhance service provision in southern Namibia. By focusing on multiple towns and settlements across two regions, the programme is positioned as a coordinated approach to addressing electricity needs in both urban and rural communities.

The groundbreaking ceremony in Mariental served as a symbolic start to the work associated with the agreement. With the SLA now in place, the next phase involves the rollout of electrification activities under the framework agreed upon by the ministry and SORED.
