Nasan Energies Set to Acquire 53 Service Stations, Paving Way for Local Oil Marketing Leadership

Nasan Energies Set to Acquire 53 Service Stations, Paving Way for Local Oil Marketing Leadership. Nasan Energies Namibia (Pty) Ltd has signed an agreement with Vivo Energy Namibia to acquire 53 Engen- and Shell-branded fuel service stations, a move that could reshape Namibia’s energy sector. The transaction, still subject to approval by the Namibian Competition Commission, is expected to position Nasan Energies as one of the country’s first major locally owned oil marketing companies.

The planned sale follows Vivo Energy’s 2024 acquisition of Engen Limited from Petronas, which included Engen Namibia. To meet regulatory requirements and ensure fair competition, the Commission directed Vivo Energy to divest part of its portfolio, opening the door for this landmark deal.

Vivo Energy Namibia’s Managing Director, Jaco Van Rensburg, welcomed the announcement, noting that the agreement brings certainty to dealers and partners while supporting continuity in service delivery. “We look forward to working with Nasan Energies to ensure a smooth transition,” he said.

Nasan Energies explained that its name reflects both national pride and cultural heritage, combining “Na” for Namibia and “San” from the Khoisan people to symbolise resilience and adaptability. The company’s leadership team includes Managing Director Sean Tobias and senior advisor Jean-Blaise Ollomo, whose three decades of experience in downstream petroleum will guide the new venture’s strategic direction.

The company emphasised its commitment to safeguarding jobs and ensuring Namibians play a leading role in the energy industry. Should regulatory approval be granted, Nasan Energies will emerge as the third-largest fuel retail operator in Namibia, following Vivo Energy and Puma Energy.

This development signals a significant step toward greater local participation in the energy sector, strengthening national capacity while maintaining competition in the retail fuel market.
