Couple Remanded in Custody Over Alleged Dumping of Newborn in Kavango West. The Rundu Magistrate’s Court has denied bail to Andreas Hauwanga (31) of Mayara village and Maria Ndadipo (31), a nursing student from Ondundu village, following allegations that they abandoned their newborn baby in Kavango West.
The two appeared before court on Monday, 8 September 2025, where they faced charges related to the dumping of the infant, reportedly discovered in the bush at Kakuro village.
According to Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga, Ndadipo gave birth at her home on 4 September. After delivery, the baby was allegedly wrapped in black plastic bags, placed inside a maize meal sack, and left in the bush. Authorities further revealed that tissue paper was found placed in the infant’s mouth.
The baby’s remains have since been transported for an autopsy to establish the cause of death.
Ndadipo is currently under police guard at Nankudu District Hospital, while Hauwanga is being held at Nkurenkuru Police Station. The case has been postponed to 16 November 2025 for further investigation.
This incident has sparked renewed debate around social challenges in Namibia, including maternal support, community health awareness, and the pressures faced by young parents. Authorities have urged communities to seek assistance through health and social support services when facing difficulties related to childbirth and parenting.
