Windhoek and Matsapha Seal Twinning Agreement to Boost Economic and Cultural Ties. The City of Windhoek has officially signed a twinning agreement with the Matsapha Town Council, an industrial hub in the Kingdom of Eswatini, marking a new chapter in regional cooperation.
The agreement was formalised yesterday by Windhoek Mayor, Councillor Ndeshihafela Larandja, and Matsapha Mayor, Lindiwe Dlamini, during a ceremony held in Namibia’s capital.
Under the partnership, the two municipalities have committed to collaborate across several key areas:Economic development, with initiatives to support SMEs and attract investment.Environmental sustainability, through sharing best practices on green and resilient city models.Education and innovation, focusing on skills transfer and capacity-building.Tourism, heritage, and culture, encouraging cultural exchanges and people-to-people connections.
Mayor Larandja emphasised that the agreement extends beyond formalities, describing it as a shared vision for collaboration and prosperity. She noted that the partnership aligns with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which envisions a more integrated and prosperous continent.
Mayor Dlamini is leading a four-person delegation on a five-day familiarisation visit to Windhoek. Their programme includes site visits to the Katutura Buy Back Centre, Bokamoso Entrepreneurial Centre, Gammams Wastewater Treatment Works, Goreangab Water Reclamation Plant, and the Kupferberg Waste Disposal Facility. In addition, the delegation toured the Windhoek City Museum and the Independence Memorial Museum.
The Matsapha delegation is expected to return to Eswatini on Saturday, 13 September 2025.
This partnership reflects the growing importance of city-to-city collaboration in strengthening trade, innovation, and cultural ties across Africa. For businesses, particularly SMEs in both Namibia and Eswatini, the agreement creates potential avenues for cooperation, investment, and market expansion.
