Namcor Corruption Case: Cedric Wellemse Tells Court He Was Already Wealthy. Alleged Namcor corruption suspect Cedric Wellemse has told the court that he was financially secure long before joining the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor).
During court proceedings, Wellemse stated that he owns three farms and had been generating millions annually prior to his employment at Namcor. He argued that claims suggesting his wealth was accumulated through the state-owned oil company were misleading.
According to information presented in court, Wellemse’s bank statements reflected balances of N$4.8 million at the end of 2017, N$5.2 million in 2019, and N$4 million in 2021. He emphasised that these figures demonstrate his financial independence before his time at Namcor.
“The narrative that I obtained money because of Namcor is not true. The narrative is that I came begging Namcor for a job,” Wellemse told the court.
The case continues to draw public attention due to Namcor’s central role in Namibia’s petroleum sector and the broader implications of corruption allegations within state-owned enterprises. The revelations around Wellemse’s finances add another layer to the unfolding proceedings as the court weighs the evidence.
This latest development underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in both public institutions and the private sector. Namibia’s business community continues to monitor the case closely, as outcomes could influence investor confidence and governance practices in key industries.
