FNB Namibia Donates Reading Books to Support Literacy in Schools. FNB Namibia, through the FirstRand Namibia Foundation, has made a contribution to support literacy development among young learners. The bank’s staff donated children’s reading books worth N$10 000 to five schools in Windhoek.
The beneficiary schools include Suiderhof Primary School, Orban Primary School, Emma Hoogenhout Primary School, Auas Primary School, and the Dagbreek Centre. The donation forms part of FNB Namibia’s ongoing commitment to education and community upliftment.
According to FNB Namibia, the initiative is a direct response to concerns over literacy and numeracy challenges facing Namibian children. Current figures indicate that seven out of ten children in the country cannot read or perform basic mathematics by the age of 10. The bank described this as an urgent matter that requires collective intervention from both the public and private sectors.
Through the donation, FNB Namibia aims to provide additional learning resources to help schools strengthen early literacy skills among learners. The organisation expressed its belief that access to reading materials at an early stage can help improve education outcomes and build a stronger foundation for future learning.
The FirstRand Namibia Foundation has previously supported community projects in health, education, and social development. This latest initiative highlights the foundation’s continued focus on empowering young Namibians through education.
While acknowledging that more still needs to be done, FNB Namibia encouraged greater collaboration among stakeholders to ensure that every child in Namibia has the opportunity to develop essential learning skills. The organisation emphasised that addressing literacy challenges is a shared responsibility, and progress can be made when communities work together toward a common goal.
