Kunene Cholera Response Intensifies as Health Ministry Rallies Partners to Prevent Further Cases. The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) has reinforced its commitment to controlling the cholera outbreak in Kunene, calling on communities and partners to ensure no further rise in cases and to prevent avoidable deaths.
Working through the Kunene Regional Health Directorate, the Ministry has activated a multi-stakeholder response, bringing together local authorities, health professionals, and community leaders. Key partners include the Opuwo Town Council, constituency councillors, government ministries, and traditional leadership.
Weekly coordination meetings are held every Tuesday to evaluate progress, share vital information, and strengthen the region’s response mechanisms. These efforts are focused on preventing transmission, supporting early detection, and improving public awareness.
The Ministry continues to urge residents to remain vigilant. Citizens are advised to boil or treat drinking water, wash hands frequently with soap, and ensure food is cooked thoroughly. People are also encouraged to seek medical assistance immediately if they experience symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, or dehydration.
The Ministry also emphasized the role of community-level leadership in spreading accurate information and helping health teams reach vulnerable populations. Strengthening community trust and encouraging proactive health-seeking behavior remains central to the region’s outbreak response.
As the fight against cholera continues, the MoHSS reaffirmed its priority: protecting every life and ensuring the region sees no further increase in cases. The public is reminded that everyone has a role to play in keeping their communities safe.
