Windhoek Urges Residents to Vacate Road Reserve for Development Projects

Windhoek Urges Residents to Vacate Road Reserve for Development Projects. The City of Windhoek has renewed its appeal to residents occupying the road reserve along Eneas Peter Nanyemba Road and the Havana 4-Way to relocate, stressing that their continued presence is delaying key infrastructure projects.

The call was made during a public consultation meeting yesterday at the Moses //Garoeb Constituency office, attended by Constituency Councillor Sefanus Ndengu and Windhoek Mayor Cllr. Ndeshihafela Larandja. Metusalem Ashipala, Section Head for Settlement Development, explained that resistance to relocation is holding back progress on both the road construction project and the planned development of formal markets at Havana 4-Way.

Deputy Chief for Emergency Services, Kupaha Uazukuani, provided service delivery updates, noting that the City has acquired four 4×4 ambulances to improve emergency access in informal settlements. Two will be stationed at Maxwilili Fire Station and two at Otjomuise. In addition, a new water tanker has been procured to address recurring challenges faced during firefighting efforts in areas without reliable water points. Land has also been earmarked for a new fire station in Havana to better respond to shack fires, which remain a pressing concern.

Mayor Larandja highlighted that the City invested over N$1.1 million between 2019 and 2021 to install 339 communal toilets in the constituency. For the current financial year, six new Sanitation Hubs will be built at Oohamba Dha Nehale Erf 137, alongside plans to extend electricity connections and install high-mast lights to enhance safety.

City Police Deputy Section Commander for Community Policing, Katrina Nomboga, announced that nine CCTV cameras will be installed in high-crime zones within the constituency. The targeted sites include intersections, shopping areas, and dumping sites identified as hotspots
