Windhoek Junior Council Showcases 109 Days of Impactful Community Projects

Windhoek Junior Council Showcases 109 Days of Impactful Community Projects. The City of Windhoek Junior Council has presented its progress to Mayor Ndeshihafela Larandja, highlighting a series of initiatives aimed at fostering safety, support, and social responsibility in the community.

The visit marked 109 days since the council began its term, during which members launched multiple projects addressing pressing social challenges. Among these is the Child Safety Awareness Campaign, focused on educating families about online safety and raising awareness about substance abuse, including hubbly-bubbly and alcohol, as well as combating incidents of child abuse and gang violence.

The Junior Council also reported on The Cancer Project, conducted in partnership with the Cancer Association of Namibia. This drive encourages schools to collect donations to support young people affected by cancer, offering both financial assistance and emotional encouragement.

In addition, the Elderly Outreach Programme has been initiated to raise funds and assemble food parcels for elderly care homes, ensuring older citizens receive support and recognition from the younger generation.

Mayor Larandja commended the council’s dedication, particularly in addressing the dangers of hubbly-bubbly, describing it as a “monster” affecting young lives. She expressed confidence in the leadership potential of the youth, stating that their proactive efforts reflect a promising future for the city.

“I am happy and impressed by your planned programs,” said Mayor Larandja. “I now know that we the elders are happy for the fact that our future is indeed in good hands.”

The Junior Council’s projects will continue in the coming months, with a focus on expanding their reach across Windhoek’s schools and communities. Their work underscores the role of young leaders in driving meaningful change and strengthening community bonds.
