Windhoek Hands Over Sam Nujoma Stadium for N$13 Million Renovation

Windhoek Hands Over Sam Nujoma Stadium for N$13 Million Renovation. The City of Windhoek has officially handed over the Sam Nujoma Stadium site to New Success Investment, the contractor appointed to carry out structural refurbishments valued at approximately N$13 million. The project, launched today, is expected to be completed within one year.

According to Mr. Uaka Kazombiaze, Manager of Parks at the City of Windhoek, the refurbishment will prioritise structural improvements, with upgrades to medical, media, and changing rooms to follow once additional funding is secured. These enhancements are designed to bring the stadium up to Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA standards, ensuring it is fit to host international competitions.

The contract was awarded through an open national bidding process, with New Success Investment emerging as the successful bidder. Mr. Homateni Kapewangolo, Operations Manager of the company, confirmed that the project will create between 50 and 60 temporary job opportunities during its implementation.

Mr. Cassius Moetie, Interim General Secretary of the Namibia Football Association (NFA), welcomed the initiative, noting its significance for Namibian football. He highlighted that restoring Sam Nujoma Stadium provides an opportunity for the country to once again host international matches locally, reducing the reliance on facilities outside Namibia. He further confirmed that discussions with government for additional financial support have been positive, with further backing anticipated.

Officials emphasised that once renovations are complete, the stadium will be reserved strictly for soccer matches. This measure aims to protect the turf, which deteriorated in the past due to overuse for multiple events.

With the contractor committed to meeting the one-year deadline, the refurbishment project represents a major step toward revitalising Namibian football infrastructure while contributing to short-term job creation in the construction sector.
