Windhoek and Katima Mulilo Mayors Strengthen Municipal CCollaboration. Strengthening inter‑municipal ties took centre stage this week as Cllr. Kabende Kabende, Mayor of Katima Mulilo Town Council, paid a courtesy visit to His Worship Cllr. Sakarias Uunona, Mayor of Windhoek. The meeting coincided with the official launch of the City of Windhoek’s Disaster Risk Reduction Strategy & Action Plan (2026–2030).
During the engagement, Cllr. Kabende expressed gratitude for the warm reception and highlighted opportunities for future bilateral collaboration. He noted that as Katima Mulilo works to boost its tourism profile and implement a new Land Management Information System, there is immense value in learning from Windhoek as a sister local authority.
Mayor Uunona reaffirmed the strong historical ties between the two local authorities, emphasizing that collaboration is a mutual process. “While we are a capital city, learning is a mutual process. We have worked exceptionally well together in the past, and we look forward to deepening our collaboration across diverse areas to benefit both of our councils,” he said.
The meeting underscored the importance of partnerships between municipalities in advancing shared development goals. By exchanging expertise and fostering cooperation, Windhoek and Katima Mulilo aim to strengthen governance, enhance service delivery, and create opportunities for economic and social growth.
As Namibia continues to prioritize sustainable urban development, initiatives like these highlight the role of local authorities in driving innovation, resilience, and community empowerment.
