Usakos Marks Landmark Week with New Campus, First Town Address and SME Park Breakthrough. Usakos has marked a significant turning point in its development journey following a week that delivered three major milestones for the town’s education, governance and local business growth. The events, held over two days, reflect growing momentum behind efforts to strengthen service delivery, expand economic prospects and improve local capacity.
The week began with the official opening of the International Training College Lingua campus at the former FNB building. The institution’s arrival brings expanded access to tertiary education within the town, offering new opportunities for youth and adults seeking skills development. Community members gathered for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, signalling broad support for the campus and its anticipated impact on local training pathways.
Later that same day, the Usakos Town Council hosted its first-ever State of the Town Address. The event brought together regional representatives, traditional authorities and officials from the Governor’s Office. During the address, the Council presented seven key planning instruments intended to support structured development and improved governance. These include a new Town Structure Plan, a Strategic Plan, a modern Zoning Scheme, a Local Economic Development Strategy, an updated Town Profile, a new municipal website and an updated Valuation Roll. The Council described these tools as part of an ongoing commitment to transparency and long-term planning.
The momentum continued with the groundbreaking of the upcoming Usakos SME Park. The project is supported through land made available by TransNamib and development assistance from QKR Navachab Gold Mine. Located near the historic steam engine site, the park is intended to support local entrepreneurs and contribute to broader economic activity. The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Minister of International Relations and Trade, Hon. Jenelly Matundu, with attendance from Governor Natalia /Goagoses.
Collectively, the three milestones highlight a period of progress for the town, underscoring its efforts to strengthen local development and enhance opportunities for residents.
