UNAM Claims Historic Third Victory at 2025 Tertiary Institutions Debating Challenge

UNAM Claims Historic Third Victory at 2025 Tertiary Institutions Debating Challenge. The Bank of Namibia on Friday hosted the 2025 Tertiary Institutions Debating Challenge (TIC), reaffirming its role as a key driver of financial literacy and public education in the country. Now one of the most anticipated fixtures on Namibia’s national debating calendar, the competition once again brought together some of the brightest young minds from across the nation.

The University of Namibia (UNAM) made history at this year’s challenge by securing its third overall win since the competition’s inception. Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) earned second place, while the International University of Management (IUM) and Triumphant College claimed third and fourth places respectively. Abraham Angula was awarded Best Speaker, further highlighting the individual talent nurtured through the event.

This year’s theme focused on the growing threat of illegal financial schemes, which continue to evolve with the rise of AI-driven scams and deep-fake technologies. Teams were tasked with tackling these issues head-on, presenting arguments that demonstrated not only sharp critical thinking but also a deep awareness of how financial fraud impacts ordinary Namibians.

Participants praised the Bank of Namibia for providing a platform that merges intellectual competition with social awareness, allowing students to sharpen their debating skills while engaging with pressing real-world issues.

As one of the Bank’s flagship initiatives, TIC has become more than just a competition — it is a tool for educating, engaging, and empowering young Namibians about financial stability, consumer protection, and the importance of resilience in an increasingly digital economy.

The 2025 edition reinforced the competition’s role in fostering informed citizens who are better equipped to recognize and challenge fraudulent financial practices, while celebrating the spirit of debate and academic excellence.
