UNAM and Bank of Namibia Extend Strategic Education Partnership to 2029. The University of Namibia (UNAM) and the Bank of Namibia (BoN) have officially renewed their long-standing Cooperation Agreement, reaffirming their shared commitment to national development through academic and research collaboration. The renewed agreement, signed on 5 June 2025, will run until 2029.
The formal signing ceremony was attended by UNAM’s Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Ellen Namhila, and the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Namibia, Ms. Leonie Dunn. The event marks an important milestone in a partnership that originally began in 2014 and has since contributed to capacity building in key sectors.
The renewed agreement outlines expanded cooperation in areas such as economics, finance, data science, and cybersecurity. The collaboration will support joint research initiatives, student internships, guest lectures, and institutional capacity building.
Ms. Dunn echoed the importance of bridging academic knowledge with industry needs, noting that “this partnership plays a vital role in fostering a pipeline of skilled professionals who will help drive Namibia’s transformation into a knowledge-based economy.”
The agreement also emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, creating pathways for students to gain real-world exposure and engage in research that informs economic policy and innovation.
