Samora Machel Constituency Residents Engage City of Windhoek on Development PPriorities. Residents of the Samora Machel Constituency gathered at the Havana Playfield today for their annual public consultation meeting with the City of Windhoek. The session, held in line with Section 88 of the Local Authority Act (Act 23 of 1992) (As Amended), provided a platform for dialogue between municipal officials and the community on service delivery and development priorities.
Opening the meeting, Windhoek Mayor Councillor Ndeshihafela Larandja highlighted the importance of consultations in strengthening accountability and ensuring residents’ voices are included in municipal planning.
Community members were updated on several key projects. In electricity, five high-mast lights have been installed at Hadino Hishongwa, Hill Side Primary School, the Chinese Church, and Eehambo daHamulungu. More than 3,000 households in Hadino Hishongwa (C, D, and E) and the relocation site at portions 1007 and 1008 of Farm 508 are also set to benefit from extended electricity connections.
On land development, the City announced that land has been demarcated and transferred to the Regional Council for the construction of a police station, health centre, and new schools at the relocation site. Formalisation of townships is progressing for Tlhabanelo A, B, and D, as well as sections of Hadino Hishongwa C.
In sanitation, the City reported that since 2019 it has invested more than N$738,000 in constructing 27 toilets in Olushandja Street and Tlhabanelo A, bringing the total to 70 communal toilets. For the 2025/26 financial year, 17 new sanitation hubs are planned for Goreangab Proper (Erf 1820) and Goreangab (Erf 2356).
The meeting also covered safety and mobility initiatives, including new smart policing methods such as surveillance cameras and community policing, as well as the rollout of a cashless bus ticketing system.
