Windhoek Fire Brigade Expands Fire Safety Programme with Community Roll-out. The Windhoek Fire Brigade Services, in partnership with Namibia’s leading super-maize meal brand Top Score, has taken another step in advancing community safety with the launch of the Fire-Retardant Paint and Smoke Detector Roll-Out Projects. The programme was introduced this past weekend at Okapale in the Goreangab Dam area and continued with an awareness and education session at Epandulo, Moses Goreangab.
The focus of the initiative is the installation of smoke detectors in households most at risk of fire-related incidents. At least 40 homes in each of the two communities will benefit from devices funded through proceeds raised during International Fire Safety Week 2024. Residents also participated in safety demonstrations and discussions designed to build knowledge on how to prevent fires and respond in emergencies.
The Fire Brigade confirmed that the roll-out will continue on 28 and 29 September, targeting homes in Mix Settlement and the Otjomuise area. These upcoming sessions are expected to extend the reach of the project to even more households, with the aim of equipping families with basic fire protection tools and knowledge.
For many low-income communities, the lack of safety equipment has left households vulnerable to fire outbreaks that can quickly destroy property and endanger lives. By pairing distribution with education, the project seeks to create a long-term culture of prevention and preparedness.
The partnership with Top Score reflects a growing recognition of the role businesses can play in advancing social safety initiatives. With each smoke detector installed, Windhoek edges closer to its vision of building safer, more resilient communities.
