Regional Netball Finalists Gear Up as Capricorn League Approaches National Play‑offs

Regional Netball Finalists Gear Up as Capricorn League Approaches National Play‑offs. As the Capricorn Schools Netball League progresses towards its climax, anticipation is mounting for the national play‑offs set to take place later this year. The national tournament, supported by Capricorn Group and endorsed by the Namibian School Sport Union (NSSU), brings together teams from across the country in a celebration of young talent.

The 2025 edition kicked off on 16 May across Windhoek venues, including Wanderers and WAP courts, featuring 85 teams from both private and public schools. These squads represent six age divisions, Under‑12 through Under‑19 and hail from eight of Namibia’s regions: Khomas, //Kharas, Hardap, Otjozondjupa, Kunene, Otjikoto, Omaheke and Erongo.

Capricorn Group’s continued sponsorship since 2017 underscores its commitment to fostering youth development through sport, particularly in women’s netball. Marlize Horn, the Group Executive for Brand & Corporate Affairs, emphasises the league’s role in shaping character and promoting teamwork among young participants.

Liezel Garbers, Chairperson of the league, described the 2025 season as “an exhilarating season of competitive matches,” extending gratitude to all stakeholders and expressing optimism for the upcoming national finals.

Fans and participants are now turning their attention to the national play‑offs, scheduled for 22 August 2025, where top teams across age groups will compete for national honours.

The Capricorn Schools Netball League serves as a critical platform for schoolgirls to develop skills, build resilience, and gain exposure to high-performance competition, all essential components of Namibia’s broader sporting and youth empowerment objectives.
